Cold Rolling Mill Model

Schematic of the strip and work roll interface

A Brief Overview of the Model

What is it?
This is a cold rolling model for a mill with up to 5 rolling stands. The model provides 3 predefined materials and one user defined material. With this model the following important values can be computed.
  • Required rolling force
  • Required rolling torque
  • Roll gap and neutral point
  • Forward slip
  • Roll bite stress distribution
  • Speed and force limits
The model results are currently available in English Units (lbs/ft/sec).

What can I do with it?
The primary uses for this model are "what if" analysis, rolling mill setup, and scheduling. If you find this model useful, LogiK Research also has the capability to further tune this model AND create real time models written in the BASIC, C or Fortran programming languages. Using a tuned model can result in the following benefits:
  • Developing rolling schedules
  • Optimizing rolling schedules
  • Standardized tension practices
  • Standardized reduction practices
  • Increasing productivity
  • Reducing off gauge losses

Are there limitations?
This model is NOT tuned to any particular mill. The results can be improved through tuning the model to your mill. If you find the results you get useful, we can further tune the model to make it even better.
